Welcome & Namaste

Who we are

Samsara is an Indian and Nepalese restaurant in Haarlem. We prepare traditional dishes from both countries using fresh herbs, fresh ingredients, and whole spices—which our chefs roast and blend themselves. We serve all of this in a warm, atmospheric setting illuminated by candlelight, complemented by friendly and attentive service. Our menu is inspired by the rich culinary traditions of India and Nepal, each possessing its own distinct character and style. The secret to our cuisine lies in the age-old art of combining authentic herbs and spices, through which we bring the signature flavors of both nations to life. Choose from our exceptional meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, and let your evening unfold into a culinary journey to the vibrant and colorful worlds of India and Nepal.

Two kitchens, one passion for flavor

संसार · Sanskrit, “the endless cycle of life”

In India and Nepal, Samsara represents a cycle that repeats itself over and over. For us, it embodies the rhythm of a wonderful evening: a warm welcome, sharing delicious dishes together at the table, and the desire to return.

Our philosophy

Four things we take the time for

Good Indian and Nepalese food requires patience and attention. These are the principles behind every dish on our plates.

  1. Whole spices, freshly blended in our own kitchen

We source whole spices, roast and grind them in our own kitchen, and create custom spice blends for every recipe. It takes more time than using pre-made spice mixes, but you can taste the difference in every sauce.

  2. Fresh every day

Our herbs, vegetables, paneer, and marinades are prepared fresh daily, ensuring that every dish retains its pure, authentic flavor.

  3. Two traditions, prepared with respect

Our Indian dishes benefit from the intense heat of the tandoor and the rich depth of slowly simmered sauces. Nepalese cuisine is kept light and aromatic, featuring hand-folded momos and the unique flavor of Timur (Sichuan) pepper.

  4. Hospitality comes first

Let us know what you enjoy and how spicy you prefer your dishes. Our team is happy to assist you in selecting your meal and will ensure that you have everything you need.

Our story

From two kitchens to one table in Haarlem

Discover how Samsara came into being.
  1. Our roots

    The beginning

    Recipes passed down through generations

Our chefs grew up with the home-style cooking of India and Nepal: dal simmering gently on the stove, momos folded by hand, and spices roasted fresh every morning.

  2. Craftsmanship

Years of experience in the hospitality industry

Mastering the craft down to the finest detail

Years of experience in restaurant kitchens have taught our chefs the art of the tandoor, the perfect balance of spice blends, and how to maintain the right pace during a busy restaurant service.

  3. Haarlem

    2026

    A home in Haarlem

We found our home in Haarlem and created a restaurant in the colors of our logo: anthracite, gold, and the warm glow of candlelight.
